More Current Fire Information: Firefighters continue to make good progress getting a containment perimeter around the Mule Fire. This blaze is burning in Horse Creek in the Wyoming Range on the Big Piney Ranger District. The fire has not increased in size and containment is now 65%. Daytime temperatures have been in the 70s-80s with nighttime lows in the 40s. Partial cloud cover and afternoon thunderstorms that build up to produce rain have helped keep fire activity subdued for the crews. No other fires are currently burning on the Bridger-Teton National Forest, although we have had lightning every day which could produce sleeper fires later. The weather is forecast to dry out as the week progresses, possibly with more wind.     For those who are planning vacations to the area, but aren't very familiar with where things are, this fire is over in the Wyoming Range a little over 30 miles west of Pinedale. The road from Pinedale over McDougal Pass into the Greys River is south of this fire and unaffected by it. Highway 191 between Pinedale and Jackson Hole is north of the fire and also is unaffected. Bondurant and the Hoback Ranches are not threatened or getting smoke. The Union Pass road is also unaffected by the fire, but is closed because of bridge construction on the Shoshone National Forest side (it is open from Pinedale to the top of Union Pass and Lake of the Woods). This fire won't affect your travel plans into the Wind River Mountains, Green River Lakes, Fremont Lake, Pinedale, or the southern Winds in the Big Sandy area. If you're in doubt about the area you are planning to visit, write us or the Pinedale Chamber and ask about the conditions for that area and we'll get back with you. There is minimal smoke coming up from the fire now and visibility is good. All trails, campgrounds, and business services are open everywhere on the Forest. Still, it is a good idea to stop by the local Forest Service Ranger District office when you get to town to get the latest updates and any advisories for the area you plan to be in.      Fire restrictions are in effect on the Bridger-Teton National Forest and in Grand Teton National Park. No campfires except in developed campgrounds. A clearing at the end of a two track road with a ring of rocks for a campfire is NOT a developed campground and you cannot have a campfire there. If it has a name like "Green River Lakes Campground", with picnic tables, and numbered camping spots, and a Campground Host, you're in a developed campground and you can have your campfire there. PLEASE be sure your fire is dead out before you leave your camping spot and be very careful with cigarettes. This may sound like a no-brainer, but the Forest Service folks are still finding camping spots where people have left their campfire burning and unattended. Please make sure your fire is completely out before leaving it! Fireworks? Don't even think about it! The fire danger is Very High. CURRENT FIRE RESTRICTIONS Bridger-Teton National Forest: Partial fire restrictions are in effect on the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Back country users are reminded that campfires are not allowed above timberline in the wilderness at any time. Fireworks are prohibited at all times. Restrictions Sublette County County-wide fire restrictions are in effect. Lighting fireworks is prohibited within Sublette County. BLM: Fire restrictions began July 4th. No open fires except within developed recreation sites. Regulations regarding smoking, operating a chain saw, and welder are in effect. No fireworks. State: Restrictions went into effect on State lands on June 11th. No open fires, barbecue grills or fireworks on any lands or facilities administered by the Game and Fish Department.
