by Clint Gilchrist May 31, 2004 A large crowd helped Fremont Peak Post 4081 Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) honor the fallen veterans of the US wars at the Pinedale Cemetery on Monday morning. The ceremony started with the pledge of allegiance and a prayer to honor those who have fought in past wars and those who are currently fighting. Flanders Field poem was then read reflecting the thoughts of a doctor as he looked upon the red fields of poppy that blanketed a graveyard full of new graves in Europe during World War I. Five local veterans then fired a salute followed by a moment of silence. A cool but sunny day was a great backdrop for the ceremony and hundreds of colorful flowers and flags decorating the graves.
