Snow Advisory
Three storms lined up to bring more snow!
March 24, 2005
The National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a Snow Advisory for southwest Wyoming until noon on Thursday. This is a strong winter storm system that is expected to be moderate to locally heavy snowfall. From 3-6 inches of new snow is possibly by noon Thursday. The advisory area includes the Upper Green River Basin, western slopes of the Wind River Mountains, including the towns of Farson, Big Piney, Pinedale and Bondurant. Travelers are cautioned that travel conditions may be hazardous with slick, snow-packed roads and reduced visibilities. The storm will pass to the east and impact central and eastern Wyoming. A Winter Storm Watch is also in effect for those areas of Wyoming for Thursday.
White Pine Ski Resort picked up 12 inches of new snow in the past 24 hours, bringing their depth total to 77 inches. Gunsight Pass SNOTEL in the Upper Green reports getting 7 inches of new snow overnight. That reporting station has increased by more than 10 inches in snow depth from a week ago for a total current depth of 49.9 inches. Big Sandy’s SNOTEL has jumped 7 inches in snow depth to 60.8 inches. Blind Bull SNOTEL is reporting 55 inches current snow depth as of Thursday, March 24.
Weekend Weather Recreation Forecast: Another storm system will move into the area Friday. Our western Wyoming mountains are expected to get another 3-6 inches of new snow out of that storm, with valleys getting 1-3 inches. An even more potent system is on the horizon for Sunday and Monday with significant snow and strong winds.
The new snow is perfect timing for Easter weekend skiing and snowboarding! White Pine’s lift tickets for an all-day adult pass are just $26. Lifts are open 7 days a week from 9 am to 4 pm. Food services at the White Pine Grill are open for après ski dinner on Saturdays and Sundays from 4-6 pm. Skiers have 4-5 more ski weekends left in the season. This is a great time to take advantage of these spring storms that bring in fresh snow for skiing fun on the mountain. White Pine will have Easter Sunrise Service at the peak at 9 am. There will also be a Progressive Easter Egg Hunt beginning 11 am on Easter Sunday at the ski area.
