The National Weather Service out of Riverton has issued a Snow Advisory for western Wyoming mountains and valleys until 5 pm today. There is also a High Wind Warning in effect across most of Sweetwater County and the Green Mountains today.
A strong weather system will bring moderate snowfall and strong winds to western Wyoming Thursday. Area mountains could see 6-12 inches of new snow and valley locations could get 2-5 inches. Strong winds may gust as high as 65 miles per hour. Sweetwater County is expected to get the brunt of the high winds. Mountain passes may be treacherous with high winds and snowfall creating blowing and drifting conditions with reduced visibility. Travelers are advised to check road conditions before departure.
Chance of snow Thursday is 50%, decreasing to 30%. Another storm system is expected to arrive in the area over the weekend bringing another round of snowfall and strong winds. Chance of snow is forecast through Wednesday of next week.
