Bondurant road work to begin in May
May-October, expect some delays
April 29, 2005
Travelers should be aware of road construction work planned this summer near Bondurant that could cause some short delays on Hwy 191 in the Bondurant to Hoback Ranches area.
The reconstruction project will begin the first week in May near the entrance to Hoback Ranches, according to the Wyoming Department of Transportation, and involves about eight miles of highway. Road crews will work one-mile sections of highway at a time removing old road surface and laying down new asphalt. There will be periods of one-way traffic controlled by flaggers and a pilot car. Drivers can expect up to 20-minute delays through the project. Work will proceed from the Hoback Ranches entrance at milepost 136 and end at the Bondurant fire station at milepost 142.
The new highway will be widened to allow for 12-foot driving lanes and 8-foot shoulders, according to Resident Engineer Bob Maxam. The contractor can only work in one-mile sections at a time, explained Maxam. The contractor will tear up one-mile sections of the highway at a time and then it must be primed or oiled to prepare for the new asphalt before they can move on to the next section.
In addition, crews will be constructing wetlands adjacent to the Hoback River on Gillman Ordway's land. Maxam said WyDOT has minimized the impacts to the wetlands in the project area and is mitigating those impacts by creating almost four acres of new wetlands.
A project board has been placed at the Bondurant Post Office to allow area residents the most up-to-date information about the project. The partial completion date is Oct. 14, 2005, with the final contract completion of July 31, 2006, to allow for adding the chip-seal top coat.
In addition to the Bondurant road construction, highway road work is also taking place on Hwy 189 just south of Big Piney and by Fontenelle Reservoir south of LaBarge.
