April 25, 2005 Killdeer migrate into Wyoming each spring to breed and spend the summer. About the size of a robin, they have two distinct black breast bands and a distinctive shrill call. They are common in fields and pastures. If a predator approaches, a killdeer will create a loud distraction display, feigning being injured with a broken wing and dragging itself on one foot to lead danger away from the vicinity of a nest or young. |
