Two men killed in roll-over accident
April 19, 2005
Two men, one from Marbleton and one from Rock Springs, were killed Sunday in a rollover vehicle accident near Rawlins, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol. 23-year old Mario Rodriquez of Marbleton and 24-year old Manuel De Jesus Rivera-Parades of Rock Springs, both died at the scene. The single-vehicle accident occurred around 2 am on Interstate 80 approximately 10 miles west of Rawlins in Carbon County.
According to the WHP report, Mr. Rodriquez was driving eastbound on I-80 on dry roads when the vehicle drifted toward the median and over the rumble bars on the pavement edge. Highway Patrol Troopers speculate that Rodriguez possibly fell asleep and woke up when the vehicle went over the rumble bars. Rodriquez over corrected the vehicle’s steering to the right which caused the vehicle to cross the eastbound lanes of the Interstate and go off the roadway into the south barrow pit in a broadside slide. The vehicle then rolled numerous times. Neither the driver nor passenger were wearing a seat belt. Both were totally ejected from the vehicle during the rollover. During the crash the vehicle’s air bags did deploy. Alcohol is being investigated as a factor in this crash.
