If the thought of taking math tests makes you nervous you wouldn’t want to change places with eighteen PHS math students who participated along with 110 others in the Herb Wolsborn State Math Contest Southwest Region Competition on April 19 at Western Wyoming Community College. PHS entered two teams of eight students each who took five 20-minute math tests to determine which individuals and teams have the best math skills. Eight schools in Southwestern Wyoming participated, with no differentiation based upon school size.
Top-ten finishers from PHS include Jamie Winters from the "A" division (juniors and seniors) and Logan Mclean, Pryce Nelson and Jennifer Petersen from the "B" division (freshmen and sophomores). Pinedale’s "B" team tied for second overall in the "B" division. Competitors were chosen to represent PHS by their persistence, good thinking skills and problem solving ability, according to math teacher Shane Costello. He and fellow math instructor Maura Williams sponsored the teams.
Students from Team "A" are Casey Dean, Paul Ziegenfielder, Gracy Huntly, Coulter Stroud, Jeff Disko, Jamie Winters, Kolter Booth, Ben Gunn and Bailey Hughes. Team "B" members include Pryce Nelson, Brent Belford, Logan Maclean, Nate Stroud, Kenny Walker, John Stack, Casey Fairbanks, Jennifer Petersen and Abe Pearce.
