Non-Resident Preference Point comments
Comments due by June 17 for elk, deer and antelope license changes
June 10, 2005

All interested parties are reminded written comments on the proposed preference point system for nonresident elk, deer and antelope licenses and increasing the price of nonresident moose and bighorn sheep preference points are due by 5 p.m. June 17.

The G&F is proposing to set the price of a nonresident elk, deer or antelope license preference point at $40 for regular and special licenses and $10 for youth licenses. Applicants would have the choice of either applying for a license or just buying the preference point.

The preference point system would not apply to second or third choices, reduced price doe/fawn deer and antelope or cow/calf elk licenses nor to all applications in the second drawing held in July. For party applications, the number of preference points of each party member would be averaged together to determine the number for the party.

As required by statute for moose and bighorn sheep licenses, the G&F is proposing to designate 75 percent of the nonresident quota for elk, deer and antelope to a preference point drawing and 25 percent to a random drawing.

The G&F is proposing an increase from $7 to $75 for moose and bighorn sheep. These proposals would take effect Jan. 1, 2006. However, preference points would not influence the drawings for nonresident elk, deer and antelope until 2007.

Written comments should be mailed to: Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Regulations, 3030 Energy Lane, Suite 100, Casper, WY 82604. Copies of the proposed regulation are available at the same address. All comments will be presented to the G&F Commission before they address the proposals at their July 12-13 meeting in Rawlins.
