The BLM and Forest Service have released a draft updated version of the Gold Book, a document introducing Best Management Practices to improve the processing of Applications for Permits to Drill (APDs) for oil and gas development. The Gold Book outlines procedures for conducting oil and gas operations on BLM and Forest Service-managed lands and split-estate lands. The last update for this book was 15 years ago. The revised book includes photographs, updated drawings, tables, references, policy, orders and regulation. The public has 30 days, until July 10, 2005, to submit comments on the draft.

Copies of the draft Gold Book are online at http://www.blm.gov/bmp/. Following the public review and comment period, an interagency team will review the submissions and incorporate appropriate changes into the final version. The final version will be available online prior to being printed.
