Packer Creek Fire
Currently at 8 acres
July 8, 2005
The Packer Creek Fire was reported on Wednesday afternoon, July 6th, burning north of Pinedale. The fire is burning in timber on National Forest land approximately 9 miles north of Warren Bridge. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Forest Service officials have raised the fire danger on the Bridger-Teton National Forest from low to Moderate due to fuels rapidly drying out in the forest.
According to local sources Thursday morning, the fire was approximately 8 acres, with spotting up to about 20 acres. Firefighters from Sublette County and the Forest Service responded immediately and were able to put hose around most of the fire Wednesday night. Approximately 60 people and ten fire engines and one helicopter are currently working on the fire, including local county, Forest Service and other interagency firefighters.
The Packer Creek Road 609 is currently closed to public travel and will remain closed to traffic until the fire is under control. The fire is approximately one mile from the Flying A Ranch, however no evacuations have been ordered as of Thursday morning. The fire is expected to be contained either late Thursday night or on Friday. Information will be updated as it comes available.
