Rendezvous Pageant
July 10, 2005
The Green River Rendezvous Pageant is an elaborate production depicting the history of the Green River Rendezvous. The performance is made possible by community volunteers as part of the Green River Rendezvous Pageant Association. This year’s performance was the 69th annual Rendezvous Pageant.
The pageant began in 1936 when members of the community decided to reenact the history of the Green River Valley. The story begins with the Astorian Party Expedition passing through the valley in 1811 en route to the mouth of the Columbia River. Six of the sixteen mountain men rendezvous were held in the Green River Valley near the confluence of the Green River and Horse Creek, near present day Daniel, Wyoming.
The pageant story tells about the area Indian tribes, important mountain men of the era, competing fur companies, Captain Bonneville and his fur trade post, white missionaries who arrived in 1836 on their way to Oregon, and the area’s first tourist, William Drummond Stewart.
The pageant takes place at the Rendezvous Grounds, adjacent to the Pinedale Rodeo grounds.
