Strong downburst winds possible July 22, 2005 The National Weather Service out of Riverton has issued a special weather statement advising of widely scattered thunderstorms developing Friday evening over the Upper Green River Basin. Thunderstorms are mainly concentrated south of Highway 351 (just north of Marbleton) and along Highway 191 south towards Farson. The main hazard with these storms is strong downburst wind gusts of up to 55 mph. Cloud to ground lightning is also a possibility with these storm cells. Storms are expected to develop across west and central Wyoming Friday evening. Boaters on open water are cautioned to be prepared for strong, erratic wind gusts. Anyone outdoors is advised to stay away from large trees and power lines that are especially vulnerable to these strong wind gusts. |
