Haying
August 24, 2005
Haying has been in full swing for some time now in the Upper Green River Valley.
First, the tall grass is cut and rows are given a few days to dry.
Next, the cut grass is raked, which turns the grass and combines two rows into one. The rows are left to dry for another day or two, and hopefully it doesn't rain.
When the grass has dried in the sun, a tractor pulling a baler go over the rows and large round bales are produced.
Ranchers then use a tractor, droubie or other machine to pick up the bales and move them to the hay stackyard.
Each bale weighs approximately one ton.
