With names like the "Pigtails", "Raggedy Hams", "Big Bad Wolves", "Porkensteins" and "Pig Rodeoers", teams braved the slippery mud to try and grab a even more slippery squeeling pig and try to wrestle it into a barrel. Pig Wrestling and the Greased Pig Contest were two of the competitions that took place Sunday, July 31st, as part of the week-long events for the 2005 Sublette County Fair.
In Pig Wrestling, teams composed of 4 members competed in age groups from young kids to adults. The object of pig wrestling is to grab the pig and place it into the barrel in the center of the pen filled with slippery, wet clay before the time expires. Each team was auctioned off in a calcutta before the event, bringing in from $50 to as much as $550 for each team.
In the Greased Pig Contest, kids entered the slippery pen with two pigs and tried to hang onto it for the alloted time. The littlest kids just had to hold onto the squirming piglet. Older kids had to pick up the larger pig and hold onto it for 10 seconds.
