Visitors entering Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks on Saturday, September 24, 2005, will have their entrance fees waived in honor of the 12th annual National Public Lands Day.
All entrance fees, including commercial tour entrance fees and transportation entrance fees, will be waived on this day. A seven-day pass to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park is normally $20 for a private, non-commercial vehicle.
National Public Lands Day was established in 1993 to increase awareness of the need for shared stewardship of public lands and to encourage people to volunteer their time and work in partnership to improve, restore, or enhance public lands for outdoor recreation, education and enjoyment. National Public Lands Day is the nation's largest one-day, hands-on volunteer effort. In 2004, nearly 90,000 volunteers built trails and bridges, planted trees and plants, and removed trash and invasive plants. National Public Lands Day is sponsored by the National Environmental Education and Training Foundation in partnership with Take Pride in America®.
