Snow on the way
Up to 3-6 inches of snow possible in the mountains
September 23, 2005
The National Weather Service in Riverton is advising a change in the weather that may bring snow to the mountains in the Upper Green River Valley.
An early fall storm system over the western United States will bring wet and cooler weather across the area by Friday night. Showers and isolated thunderstorms will spread across the state Friday. Rain will turn to snow at elevations above 7000 feet Friday evening. Up to 3-6 inches of snow is expected in the northwest mountains including the northern Wind River Mountains, Tetons, Absarokas, and higher elevations of Yellowstone National Park by late Friday. Snow is expected to continue through Saturday morning and then taper off.
Hunters and others involved in outdoor activities in the northewest mountains should be prepared for an abrupt change to cold and wet weather along with the likelihood of accumulating snowfall.
