Griz injures hunter on BTNF

The Bridger-Teton National Forest reported that the Texas man injured last Sunday by a bear in the Teton Wilderness was attacked by a grizzly.
The man was hunting with some residents of Wyoming and had killed a deer on Saturday afternoon. The attack occurred as he was trying to retrieve his deer carcass from the field the following day. The incident occurred in the Teton wilderness, near Bridger-Lake on the Buffalo Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest. The man sustained puncture wounds to his wrist and shoulder and lacerations to his back. He is currently recovering at St. John’s Hospital in Jackson, Wyoming and his release date is unknown.
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department was contacted immediately after the attack, and they will be continuing their investigation this week. Further details of this incident will be released from the Forest as they become available and pending a complete investigation.
With the start of the hunting season, the Bridger-Teton reminds visitors to practice bear safety and encourages all visitors to carry bear spray and to keep a clean camp while recreating on the Forest. All attractants should be stored in a manner that makes them unavailable to bears. Approved bear resistant containers are available for rent at the Forest District offices and the Interagency Visitor Center in Jackson.
