BLM: Tighter air quality rules for oil & gas drilling
October 13, 2005

The BLM said oil and gas operators may have to reduce their air quality emissions by 80% in the Jonah Field to avoid adverse impacts to air quality in the Upper Green River Valley, according to a story by the online Jackson Hole Star Tribune (JHST) on October 13, reporting on the Environmental Protection Agency’s recent weigh-in on the Jonah Infill Drilling Project supplemental report on air quality.

"Under the lowest emissions alternative, the BLM has estimated there will still be impacts to nearby wilderness areas with haze on nine days of the year by 2017, when development is expected to be in full swing. There is also anticipated to be haze in towns including Big Piney, Boulder, Cora, Daniel, Farson and LaBarge on certain days of the year even with an 80 percent reduction in emissions, the BLM's air quality report said," according to the JHST article.
