Yellowstone Park roads to close Nov. 7

Roads in Yellowstone National Park will close for the season on Monday, November 7th to allow snow to accumulate in preparation for the winter season.
An exception is the road from the North Entrance at Gardiner, Montana, to the Northeast Entrance at Cooke City, Montana, which remains open year-round to automobile travel (although this road is subject to temporary closures, and chains or snow tires may be required at times due to hazardous winter driving conditions).
With the closing of park roads, the fishing season in Yellowstone also closes at 10 pm on Sunday, November 6 in ALL portions of the park.
After the park roads close for the season, non-motorized travel such as walking, bicycling and roller blading will be allowed as long as weather permits. Specific information on these types of activities can be obtained by contacting park headquarters at (307) 344-7381.
Roads are scheduled to reopen for the winter season to oversnow vehicles (snowmobiles and snowcoaches) at 7:00 am on Wednesday, December 21, 2005, provided sufficient snow has accumulated to allow for safe travel conditions. Groomed snowmobile roads typically are open for snowmobiling until early March, depending on weather conditions.
Snowmobiling rules are:
• A maximum of 720 snowmobiles will be allowed in the park each day;
• All recreational snowmobiles will be required to have Best Available Technology (BAT);
• All recreational snowmobilers in Yellowstone must travel with a commercial guide;
• All snowmobile operators are required to have a valid state driver’s license; no learners permits are allowed.
