Part of $380 million to be distributed to 41 states and Puerto Rico December 21, 2005 (Washington DC) U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary, Mike Johanns, announced on Wednesday that more than $380 million will be distributed to 41 states and Puerto Rico for improvements to public schools and roads. The money is 25% of the revenue the Forest Services generates from timber sales, mineral resources, grazing fees and other sources which is returned to the states in which the national forest lands are located. The funding is distributed as part of the Secure Rural Schools Act which helps provide funding for schools and roads. |
