January 3, 2006
The University of Wyoming Sublette County Extension Office will be offering a Dining with Diabetes in Wyoming class on January 9th in Pinedale at the Pinedale Community Hall, and on January 11th in Big Piney at the Marbleton Senior Center. Both programs will start at 5:30 PM.
Dining with Diabetes in Wyoming is a once a week class that runs for four weeks with a three month follow up class. This class is open to those with type 2 diabetes, their family members and caretakers. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Cost of the entire program is $25.00 per participant.
Participants will learn how to prepare meals that are healthy, easy to prepare and taste good. Recipes will be demonstrated, and participants will have the opportunity to taste each one. Participants will also learn up-to-date information on nutrition, meal planning, exercise and how to understand common diabetes-related medical tests. Recipes and handouts will be given to each participant.
Diabetes is a very serious and costly disease, but research has shown that those who learn to manage their blood glucose (sugar) levels eat a healthy diet, and exercise regularly can lower their risks of complications and lead a healthier and more productive life.
Dining with Diabetes in Wyoming is sponsored by the University of Wyoming Extension Service in cooperation with the Wyoming Diabetes Prevention and Control Program.
Registration for this program can be made by calling the Sublette County Extension Office at 307-367-4380 or 307-276-3301.
