The Pinedale HS age hockey team was back in league action again last weekend, January 28 & 29, with two games against the Casper Oilers at home.
The first game started in a defensive struggle for Casper with Pinedale peppering the Casper goalie with 12 shots before Drew Guenthner put the puck in the net, assisted by Kathryn Konicek. The second period started out better for Pinedale when Jake Hunt scored a power play goal only 30 seconds into the period. Then the game went back to the same trend with Pinedale shooting at will at the goalie, but could not get another one in until late in the game when Drew Guenthner scored an empty net goal to win. Pinedale 3- Casper 0. Chris Manning only had to make 9 saves to record a shutout. He, however, had to make some pretty good saves near the end of the game to preserve his shutout. Pinedale outshot Casper 32 to 9 in the game.
The next morning saw Pinedale facing the same Casper team. Pinedale scored within the first four minutes on a goal by Michael McDaniel, assisted by Drew Guenthner. Pinedale kept the pressure up and Drew Guenthner got another hat trick scoring 3 goals in a row assisted by Joe Pearce, Lincoln Proud, Jeremy Silvey and Emily Elder. Casper did manage to spoil Chris Manning’s bid for two shut outs in a row with a goal in the middle of the third period. Chris had to work a little harder in this game, Casper managed to get 19 shots in this game to Pinedale’s 32. Pinedale won 4-1.
These two wins gave the Glaciers four more points to put them into 4th place in the state rankings with two more weekends to go. They have three important games this weekend that could determine what place they will be seeded in the state tournament. They play Jackson Friday night at 7:30 pm, Cheyenne Saturday morning at 8:45 am, and then wrap up their league action with Riverton at 5 pm Saturday night. All of these games will be played at the Sublette County Ice Arena in Pinedale. Come out and watch this exciting hockey action.
