BLM has money for Rural Fire Departments

The Wyoming Bureau of Land Management is once again making money available for rural fire departments (RFD). The Rural Fire Assistance Program has approximately $500,000.00 available to enhance the fire protection capabilities of rural fire departments which protect rural communities and provide a substantial cooperative assistance in protecting public lands.
This year, the funding will be prioritized for:
• National Wildland Fire Coordinating Group training for fire department personnel
• Essential personal protective equipment
• Essential communications equipment
To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
• The RFD must serve a community in the wildland urban interface with a population less than 10,000 people
• The amount cannot exceed $20,000
• The applicant must be capable of meeting a cost share of ten percent.
The grant application forms will be consolidated and prioritized by the Wyoming Fire Action Team, partners include (BLM, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Wyoming State Forestry, the USDA Forest Service and National Park Service). After national level approval, the cooperators will then distribute funds to applicants.
Wyoming BLM State Director Bob Bennett said, "We are pleased to have the opportunity to once again offer funding for our local partners. This is a win-win situation for the communities and for BLM."
