Interstate 80 opened again Monday morning for travel in both directions in Wyoming. Approximately 150 miles of the interstate was closed Sunday and early Monday morning between Rock Springs and Cheyenne due to extremely hazardous winter driving conditions and reports of multiple accidents.
A serious 20-car chain collision accident occurred Sunday afternoon west of Laramie closed both the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-80 for most of Sunday into early Monday morning. Six fatalities have been confirmed in that pile-up that included tractor-trailer combinations, passenger vehicles and pickups. Winter weather and slick roads have been blamed for numerous other accidents and at least one additional fatality on Wyoming roads over the weekend.
