More snow expected this week
2-5 inches new snow possible in western valleys
March 6, 2006

A series of winter storms is expected to bring more new snow to the mountains and valleys of western Wyoming this week, according to the National Weather Service out of Riverton, Wyoming.

Three to five inches of snowfall is likely on the west slope of the Wind River Mountains Monday night. Precipitation could start out as rain turning to snow. Valleys could see 2-4 inches on Monday, with an additional 3-5 inches on Tuesday. Daytime temperatures are expected to be in the 20s and 30s all week with night-time lows in the single digits. There is a chance of snow every day this week, with Thursday looking like the most blustery day.

Travelers can expect road conditions to deteriorate as snow accumulates. Expect slushy conditions which turn to ice, with further snow accumulations, creating snow packed roads and hazardous driving conditions.

South Pass will likely experience significant blowing and drifting snow Monday night, with wind gusts between 40-50 mph.

Western mountains could get 6-9 inches of new snow by late Tuesday afternoon. Eastern Wyoming and the Big Horn Mountains are likely to see rain turning to snow Tuesday and Wednesday.

Another storm will enter western Wyoming Wednesday night through Thursday morning bringing additional snow accumulations.

White Pine Ski Area reports great skiing conditions with 60” total depth of powder and packed powder. The Continental Divide Snowmobile Trail in the Upper Green is being groomed with 50-60 inches base. Horse Creek trails in Wyoming Range have 60-74 inches base.
