More snow on the way for the weekend
March 17, 2006
A major winter storm is brewing for western and central Wyoming for this weekend, according to the National Weather Service out of Riverton. The brunt of the storm is expected to hit by Saturday night and continue through Sunday night. Initially areas may get a mild mixture of rain and snow on Saturday, changing over to snow Saturday night continuing into Sunday. Accumulations of 3-6 inches of new snow are possible in the mountains and 1-2 inches in the western valleys.
Ranchers with calving operations are cautioned to take precautions to protect young cattle prior to the onset of precipitation. Snow is expected to be heavy and wet, putting an additional stress on weaker animals.
Easterly winds of 10-20 mph will cause some drifting of wet snow, creating poor traveling conditions.
