Paradise Zone Change denied by P&Z
March 16, 2006
The Sublette County Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanamously on Thursday to recommend denial of a rezone request for a 280-acre parcel on the southern end of Paradise Road that contains a portion of the Lander Cutoff of the Oregon Trail.
The applicants seek to change the zoning from A1-Agricultural to HI-Heavy Industrial to create a 21-lot subdivision to service the oil and gas activity in the nearby Pinedale Anticline and Jonah Field.
A number of citizens sent in letters and spoke in person to raise concerns about the impacts to the national historic trail, the proximity to the New Fork River, possible risks of industrial waste water run-off and wind-borne contaminiation, increased traffic and safety concerns at the intersection of Highway 351, use incompatability with the nearby BLM New Fork day-use area and fishing access, and spot zoning.
The zone change request will go before the County Commissioners in April for a final decision.
