Pinedale Boys Basketball
Boys State 3A Championships
March 12, 2006
The Pinedale Wranglers played in the Boys 3A State Basketball Championships in Casper this past weekend, ultimately taking the 5th place spot.
Pinedale defeated Torrington 47-46 on Thursday in an exciting game that went into overtime and was won with a last-second, amazing 3-point shot by Jason Vickrey.
Pinedale played Buffalo on Friday and lost 44-31. The Bisons were ranked #1 all year long, with huge players who looked like they just came in from the weight room ready to head for the football field. The game was tied 16-16 at half time. Buffalo was able to pull ahead 28-18 by the end of the 3rd quarter and keep the lead to the end. That placed them in the Loser's bracket to play Mountain View on Saturday.
On Saturday morning, Pinedale lost to Mountain View, 76 to 57. Again, the Wranglers played a tough game, but just couldn’t get enought points into the basket to bring off a win.
Buffalo defeated Lander in the final Championship game on Saturday, for 1st and 2nd places. Mountain View placed 3rd and Douglas placed in the consolation slot.
This was Pinedale’s first year playing at the 3A level, formerly in 2A. This season they played against schools much larger than Pinedale; schools they have never played before. They played hard and, ultimately, worked their way to the state championships.
The games were broadcast live in the Pinedale area courtesy KPIN 101.1 FM radio and announced by former coach Gene Andrews.
