March 13, 2006
Man found dead near Granite Creek On February 9, the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office responded to an assistance request from Teton County Sheriff’s Office for help in locating a suicidal subject in the Granite Creek Area. Deputies found the vehicle of Jan Kurty in the Granite Creek parking lot, but Kurty was not in the immediate area. Search & Rescue teams from both counties were called in and combed the area, but were unable to locate the missing man due to the amount of snow and lack of any visible tracks. The search was suspended. A month later, on Saturday, March 11, Mr. Kurty's body was found by an off-duty Teton County Deputy who was in the area coyote hunting. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
