Pinedale Municipal Election challenged
Complaint filed asks for election for Town Council to be annulled
May 17, 2006
Two Pinedale residents have filed a complaint in Sublette County District Court Wednesday challenging the Pinedale Municipal elections which were held on May 2, 2006. The elections chose a new Pinedale mayor and two new town council persons.
The complaint asks that the election be annulled and an order entered to require a new special election scheduled to determine new Town Council persons. The complaint does not challenge the mayoral election.
The complaint, filed on Wednesday, May 17th, challenges the constitutionality of "The 30 Day Trap" and the eligibility of two of the candidates for Town Council.
The complaint lists Loretta Deats and Robert Brito as plaintiffs. Brito ran as a candidate for Pinedale Town Council, but did not win.
KPIN owner Bob Rule interviewed Brito following the filing of the complaint, and Rule reports that Brito stated that if the court were to order a new election for Town Council, Brito would withdraw his name from the ballot, as he did not wish to appear that he was seeking a new election as a second chance to win. Brito stated that he has been approached by many of those persons impacted by the election, and he filed the complaint in an effort "to right a wrong".
