(Pinedale) Groundbreaking for the Pinedale Aquatic Center was held on April 14. Since then a chain-link safety fence has been erected that encloses the site and keeps students and citizens out of the construction zone. The next steps include survey work, demolishing the tennis courts and creating tie-ins for sewer, water and fire lines.
Traffic on Tyler in front of the construction site will be redirected for up to two days during the next several weeks when the actual tie-ins are made. A specific date when traffic will be redirected has not yet been determined. However, parents of elementary students will be informed of the specific dates and will be given alternate directions at that time. It will not disrupt schooling, but will require driving a block west in order to avoid construction.
Construction of the footings will begin the last week of May. Following that the walls will be built to enclose the facility and allow for working through the winter. The pool will be dug after most of the rest of the project is completed.
The transportation facility, which is located on school property on the western edge of town, is about 70% complete according to Jamison Ziegler, Construction manager. "We’ll be moving in before August," Ziegler said.
Ziegler also said that planning for the new fifth and sixth grade facility is on the fast track. "We’d like to be moving dirt by mid-July," he said. "The Board of Trustees will be presented with construction drawings in May and given a gross maximum price (GMP) in June." That would allow for twelve months of construction prior to opening for the first day of the 2007/2008 school year.
