Fire Restrictions go into effect August 31
August 29, 2006

Fire managers on the Bridger-Teton National Forest and Grand Teton National Park have announced they will implement partial fire restrictions beginning Thursday, August 31. The current fire danger rating is Very High. There are some slight differences in the restrictions between the Forest and the Park. Below are the regulations:

Campfires
Grand Teton National Park:
Lighting, building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire or open fire is prohibited, except in an established fire ring at an established campground. Charcoal fires are permitted if used in self-contained appliances such as metal grills. Fires solely fueled by liquid or LPG fuels are permitted.

Bridger-Teton National Forest:
Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, barbecue or grill is prohibited, except in designated recreation sites. The use of portable stoves, pressurized liquid fuel, lanterns using gas, or a fully enclosed stove with spark arrester screen is permitted.

Smoking
Grand Teton National Park and Bridger-Teton National Forest:
Smoking is only permitted within an enclosed vehicle or building (unless otherwise prohibited), at a developed campground site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials.

Other Uses
Grand Teton National Park and Bridger-Teton National Forest
The use of acetylene cutting torches or electric arc welders is permitted only in areas cleared ten feet in radius. A chemically pressurized fire extinguisher with a minimum rating of 2A must be at-hand.

Any federal, state, or local officer or member of an organized rescue or fire-fighting force may use open fire in the performance of an official duty.

Bridger-Teton National Forest only:
No chainsaws may be operated without a USDA or SAE approved spark-arresting device properly installed and in effective working order. A chemical pressurized fire extinguisher and a round-point shovel of at least 36 inches
must be at-hand. No explosives requiring fused blasting caps may be used.

These restrictions will remain in place until further notice, and may be expanded or reduced depending upon the weather and related fire danger.
