Greys River trail closed due to damage
Spring Creek Trail on Greys River Ranger District

(Afton) The Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) has closed the Spring Creek Trail on the Greys River Ranger District to motorized use due to repeated trail damage. The Spring Creek Trail is located off the Greys River Road, south of the Corral Creek Guard Station.
The decision to close the trail to motorized users was based on the significant damage the trail repeatedly sustained, particularly in the wet months. The damage resulted in hazardous trail conditions and created soil and water resource damage throughout the area.
"Our motorized recreationists will still be able to access the area by using the adjacent Spring Creek road," said Greys River Natural Resource Specialist Sid Smith.
Motorized vehicles can cause damage to wet trails, leaving deep ruts, which degrade the experience for other trail users, and create a large amount of work for the trail crews, the BTNF news release stated.
"Motorized vehicle operation is a legitimate use of the Bridger-Teton, in the right places", said Forest Supervisor Kniffy Hamilton. "Unmanaged recreation is one of the four greatest threats facing our National Forest System lands today, and the proactive management action being taken by the Greys River District should help to restore a welcomed trail experience for all of our Forest users," she said.
