Halfway Post Office Dedication Sept 16
At the Green River Valley Museum in Big Piney
August 25, 2006
The official dedication for the Halfway Post Office will be at the Green River Valley Museum in Big Piney, at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 16th. The dedication will also highlight the release of the Museum’s new book, The Halfway Post Office… Many descendent and locals who were involved in area rural post office history will be in attendance. Melanie and Jennifer Ball will read some poetry by their mother, Dele Ball, at the dedication. Melanie Ball continues her mother’s tradition of carrying the mail for the rural Cottonwood route today.
The book tells the interesting story of the rural Halfway Post Office which served the Cottonwood Creek drainages near Big Piney in the early 1900s. It also is full of interesting information about many of the other rural post offices in the Upper Green River Valley during the early days when mail was delivered through rural post offices and contract mail carriers.
This is the first book published by the Green River Valley Museum. Many people contributed to the extensive research, provided photographs and contributed to the production of the book. This is a limited edition print of just 500 copies. The book costs $15.00 and is on sale now at the Museum, as well as the Office Outlet stores in Big Piney and Pinedale. (Great Christmas gift for anyone who has ties to the Big Piney area!)
