Jim Lehrer NewsHour
August 23, 2006

PBS aired a program about the natural gas boom impacts on Pinedale on Tuesday, August 22, on the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer.

The program covered many of the impacts of the boom by selected comments from a variety of local residents, gas field workers and industry representatives. Comments highlighted impacts due to the influx of workers, the county-wide housing shortage, increase in drugs and crime, air quality degradation, the rising cost of real estate and housing, the labor shortage and other issues related to the rapid pace of development. The program was entitled, "Natural Gas Boom Impacts Rural Wyoming Town."

People who appeared on the program included Pinedale residents Lynn Grassell and Bruce & Mary Wolford, EnCana USA spokesmen Paul Ulrich and Stephen Trosclair, Upper Green River Valley Coalition environmental activist Linda Baker, Conservationist Bruce Gordon, Sublette County Sheriff “Bardy” Bardin, Pinedale Mayor Steve Smith, Pinedale BLM Field Office Manager Dennis Stenger, EnCana Oil and Gas Biologist Dessa Dale, and Teddy Roosevelt Conservation Partnership Biologist Steve Belinda (former Pinedale BLM Biologist).

A transcript of the program appears on the PBS website on the Online NewsHour with Jim Lehrer page:
