Bridger-Teton plans Prescribed Burn Sept. 28
On Monument Ridge near Bondurant
September 25, 2006
The Bridger-Teton National Forest plans to conduct a prescribed burn near the town of Bondurant, Wyoming starting Thursday, September 28. The Monument Ridge Prescribed Fire Project, located approximately three-miles west of Bondurant on the Big Piney Ranger District, is 975 acres.
The primary objective is to reduce the existing wildland fire hazard, thus reducing potential negative effects from future wildland fire to both National Forest and adjacent private lands while restoring fire-adaptive ecosystems. Additional benefits of prescribed fire are to rejuvenate stagnant, decadent and encroached sagebrush and aspen stands, which will improve vegetation diversity and wildlife habitat.
A helicopter will be used for aerial ignition and holding as needed. Hunters and forest visitors are asked to use caution while in the area. Forest users may experience temporary smoky conditions in the vicinity of these fires, along with the possibility of occasional, short-term trail or road closures. Interagency fire managers will attempt to minimize any adverse impacts as the burns proceed.
The project is expected to begin on Thursday, September 28th and be carried out over the next couple of weeks depending on weather. Actual ignition will be dependent on meeting strict parameters for weather and fire behavior conditions.
