JIM CREEK FIRE:
Size: 3,725 acres, Wildland Fire Use for resource benefit
The Jim Creek fire received 9/10 of an inch of rain over the past 24 hours. This fire began on June 26 from lightning, 24 miles north of Pinedale, Wyoming, in the
Bridger Wilderness. It is being allowed to burn as a Wildland Fire Use, a way to use natural fires as a tool to help land managers reduce the risk of unwanted wildfires and increase natural resource benefits over time. This fire does not threaten private property, facilities or other developments. Recent rain showers in the area are expected to reduce fire activity. There are 57 fire personnel assigned to the fire.
Jim Creek Fire Closures: The Pot Creek Roads # 714 & 713 are both closed. Boulder Basin. Road #716 is closed past the #717 junction and Jim Creek Road #710 is closed past #711 junction for public safety. Hunters and hikers are urged to stay out of the area and respect the closures.
BATTLE MOUNTAIN FIRE
Status 1,370 acres, This fire has been declared contained.
The Battle Mountain fire was located about 30 miles north of Pinedale and 3 miles southwest of Green River Lakes in the Moose-Gypsum area. It was ignited on August 23, 2006, after a lightning storm passed over the northern Wind River Mountains. There are 2 engines and 3 overhead resources, for a total of 8 personnel working to mop up. The fire has been declared 100% contained as of 4 pm on Tuesday, September 12. Fire behavior remains minimal and the fire is in the mop up and rehabilitation phase. Crews continue to cool down hotspots within the fire perimeter.
Closures: The Moose-Gypsum Forest Service road 680 has been re-opened to the public. Visitors to the area are asked to use caution and drive slowly.
PURDY FIRE
Status: 22,613 acres, 85% contained
Estimated containment date is September 30, 2006
There are currently 124 people assigned to the Purdy fire. Crews are working on mop up, line improvement and spot fire containment, with aerial support. Non-essential fire lines are being rehabilitated. Conditions impacting fire fighting efforts include extreme fuel loading, erratic and strong dry thunderstorm winds, bug kill timber, difficult access, inversion and spotting.
Closure Status:The Union Pass Road (FDR 263)is now open. Access to Lake of the Woods is open. Sheridan Basin (FDR 538)is open from Highway 26. The Warm Springs Loop Road (FDR 532) remains closed from its junction with Union Pass road to Sheridan Basin (FDR 538).
