Hatch Report: Fall Fishing September and October are my favorite months of the year to be out fishing. The summer crowds are gone and trout are eating aggressively to fill up before winter hits. With cooler temperatures in the mornings there is no real need to get out early, trout really don’t get moving until the sun is high in the sky.
Hoppers are the main stay this time of the year, with a few brown stones in the air and water. This means fishing big terrestrial patterns like bugmeisters and PMX’s will work great for trout. If they won’t take a large bug on the surface, tie a dropper nymph under your dry, like a prince or copper john. This will bring trout out to feed.
Enjoy the great fall weather and get out and fish!
