Bison

Bison, commonly called buffalo, once roamed the western plains by the millions. Native Americans and early trappers utilized them as a major food source here in the Upper Green River Valley. Prehistoric Indians hunted them here for thousands of years, evidenced by the Wardell Buffalo Trap archaeological site near Big Piney. Several area ranches in the county raise bison today.
