EnCana recognized by Governor
Receives stewardship award
by Governor Freudenthal’s office
October 16, 2006

Gov. Dave Freudenthal, Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission (IOGCC) 2005-06 chairman, recognized Monday EnCana Oil and Gas (USA) Inc., during the Chairman's Stewardship Awards presentation at the IOGCC Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas for the company's outstanding environmental efforts in Wyoming.

The awards represent the commission's highest honor for exemplary efforts by the oil and natural gas industry in environmental stewardship and challenge organizations, companies and individuals nationwide to demonstrate innovation, dedication and passion for the environment.

In 2001, EnCana acquired leases and assumed the majority of development in Jonah Field, a 24,000-acre area containing 13.7 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. The company successfully secured a position as a leader in oil and gas development in Wyoming while demonstrating that production could be accomplished in the area with minimal environmental impact.

EnCana's plan involved reducing emissions by using flareless flowback systems, centralized frac operations, natural gas rigs and dust control. It also involved offsite mitigation, surface reclamation and low-impact development. The innovative techniques allowed for full gas recovery, reasonable outcome-based performance objectives and flexible management tools to maintain environmental protection.

"I would like to thank EnCana for its commitment to excellence in the area of environmental stewardship," Freudenthal said. "The company's efforts to ensure production of natural gas in the Jonah Field could be accomplished in harmony with the environment are commendable. I urge others to learn from or follow the example of EnCana and to continue to recognize the importance of environmental stewardship."

EnCana Oil and Gas (USA) Inc. representatives Jon Schopp, vice president of North Rockies, and Randy Teeuwen, community relations advisor, accepted the award for the company.

Other stewardship award winners included the Kansas Corporation Commission, ALL Consulting and the National Energy Technology Laboratory in the Environmental Partnership Category, Kansas Independent Oil and Gas Association in the Energy Education Category and Encore Acquisition Company in the Independent Company Category.
