The National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Monday morning through Tuesday afternoon. A cold Pacific storm system is expected to hit western Wyoming Monday morning bringing heavy snow to the western mountains. Snow is expected Monday and Tuesday for the Upper Green River Basin including Pinedale, Big Piney, Farson and LaBarge.
Snowfall up to 2 feet is predicted for the mountains and up to 10 inches may fall in the valleys. One to two inches of snow is expected by sunrise Monday morning. Snow is expected to increase through the morning, becoming heavy at times Monday afternoon and evening. Snowfall up to 12 inches is expected from Bondurant to Pinedale. Snowfall around Big Piney is expected to be slightly less, around 7 inches.
Strong southwest winds will cause significant blowing and drifting snow by late Monday morning. Strong winds will continue to Tuesday morning with potential white out conditions from Bondurant to Farson.
Travelers should be prepared for significant snow, sleet and ice accumulations that may impact travel. Mountain passes may have blowing and drifting snow with near white out conditions.
Snow will spread east of the Continental Divide Monday night into Tuesday. An Arctic front will drop down into Wyoming Monday night bringing much colder temperatures and more snow. Only light snow is expected in the mountains on Wednesday. Wind chill readings will be well below zero at times. A slight moderation in temperatures will occur by Thursday.
