Archaeology of the Upper Green
December 13, 2006
Pinedale BLM archaeologist, Dave Vlcek, gave a talk on Wednesday at Rendezvous Pointe on archaeology of the Upper Green River Valley.
Much of the new information learned lately has come as the result of the surge in oil and gas-related activity in the valley. "A lot of the archaeology we deal with these days is oilfield related," he said. "We learn a lot from the oilfield."
Discoveries include prehistoric human occupation evidence that dates back as far as 7,500 years. Archaeologists have found fire pits, house pits, animal traps and processing sites, human burial sites, projectile points, drill bits, jewelry, beads, awls and stone and bone tools.
