New Stewardship Agreement signed December 15, 2006 According to an article in The Clark Fork Chronicle today, the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) have just signed an agreement with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) to conduct two, 10-year habitat stewardship projects in Wyoming and Montana. The stewardship agreement allows the RMEF and its partners to do habitat improvement projects on National Forest and BLM land, including 174,000 acres on BLM in the Wyoming Range west of Pinedale. The agreement also includes 85,000 acres on the Seeely Lake Ranger District of the Lolo National Forest in Montana. Projects the RMEF can do include prescribed burns, thinning aspen and removing conifers to improve aspen regeneration to improve big game wildlife habitat. |
