Former SCSO detective stabbed to death in Helena

Services were held Thursday in Helena, Montana, for Paul Raftery who was stabbed to death on Friday, December 8th.
Raftery, 41, was a former Sublette County Sheriff’s Office detective and worked in Pinedale at the SCSO for eight years before moving to Montana to attend law school at the University of Montana. Raftery was stabbed in a botched robbery attempt by two teenagers while he was walking home in Helena.
There is a new story about Raftery that appeared today in the Helena Independent Record with more information about the stabbing and comments from family and co-workers. Former Sublette County Sheriff, Hank Ruland, is quoted in the article.
Two 18-year old Helena men face homicide charges for the stabbing. The Helena IR article states the stabbing took place around 11 pm on Saturday.
