Mountain Lion
February 18, 2007
Also called cougar or puma, these large cats are relatively abundant in North America, although count yourself lucky if you actually see one in the wild. They will usually know of your presence long before you know of its. Mountain lions can weigh up to 190 pounds and be up to 9-feet in total length. In the Rocky Mountains, they rely mainly on deer for food. They also prey on elk, moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, beaver, porcupines, rabbits, birds, mice, and domestic dogs and cats.
