The Pinedale Jazz Band and Jazz Choir traveled to Casper College to participate in the 40th annual Kinser Jazz Festival. The band performed four tunes for their judges and were rated on their performances both individually and as a group. The jazz choir performed three numbers for their judges and were also rated individually and as a group.
The choir performed their songs for Michael T. Krueger who is from the University of Wyoming and Celeste Delgado-Pelton. She is the program coordinator and professor of music at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado. She also conducted a clinic with the Pinedale Jazz Choir after they performed. The jazz choir received two Excellent (II) ratings from their judges.
The jazz band performed for Mike Marlier, the Director of Drum Set Studies at the Lamont School of Music at Denver University and Andy Nevala who is currently a member of Conjunto Colores, voted Colorado’s best salsa and Latin Jazz group for the past four years. Mr. Marlier worked with the Pinedale band and played with them in a clinic following their performance. The Pinedale Jazz Band received two II ratings from their judges. Kristin Corwin (alto sax), Justin Schultz (trombone), Meredith Noble (trombone) and Kenny Walker (bass) all were singled out for Outstanding Solo Awards.
The Pinedale jazz groups did a fine job representing our community and school at this festival. There were over 60 groups attending this festival this year from all over the state. The groups at this festival were judged very tight but consistent. During the bands two days of competition only two I ratings were handed out.
These groups will continue participating at various jazz festivals throughout the Rocky Mountain region at Northwest College Jazz Festival in Powell March 15-17 and the UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival April 19-20 followed by their home Spring Jazz Concert April 24th, before finishing up with the District Festival April 27 at Lyman.
Those participating in the jazz choir were Brindi McGinnis, Sadie Nelson, Kathryn Konicek, Morgan Holz, Julianne Goltz, Miranda Mitchell, Jaimlyn Wilcock, Mariah McKay, Travis Hines and Ethan Kerr. They were accompanied by Jaclyn Nelson and directed by Gena Anderson.
Jazz Band I performers were Lizzy Cooney, May Huntley, Andi Noble, Conor Raney, Kristin Corwin, Will Rogers, Jeff Biffle, Meredith Noble, Jake Brunette, Andy Waxe, Kenny Walker, Max Burns, Justin Schultz, Colter Bennett, Abe Pearce, Ashley Transtrum, Shanna Corwin, Dylan Strike, Trevor Howard, David McCarty, Brad Reints, Jordanne Steege, Cody Higgins, Nate Stroud, Kathryn Konicek, and Morgan Holz.
