Weekend Weather: COLD
Dress to protect from wind chill
February 2, 2007

Gusty winds, combining with cold temperatures, are making it very cold outside in Wyoming right now. Exposed skin is in danger of frostbite in a very short period of time under these conditions, so dress warmly if going outside. Temperatures are expected to moderate Friday night as winds decrease and somewhat milder air moves aloft, according to the National Weather Service in Riverton. Snow showers may develop, but amounts will be light.

Another potent winter weather system looms on the horizon, and heavy snow is a possibility over the weekend. There is still some uncertainty about what this system will do, says the NWS, but it looks right now like it could bring three to six inches of snow Saturday night and Sunday. Strong north winds may also come with this new system, causing cold wind chills. Stay tuned to weather forecasts as more information comes available.

Travelers are urged to be prepared for winter driving conditions and have emergency supplies on hand in their vehicles. In addition to possible slick road conditions, watch for wildlife on the road rights-of-way. Moose, and herds of deer and antelope, are plentiful in the area and can jump out unexpectedly into your path in the driving lane, compounding accident potential on slippery roads.
