Governor signs Wolf Management Bill
March 2, 2007
Governor Freudenthal signed the wolf-management bill HB213, "Game and fish-wolf management," also known as House Enrolled Act 123, into law today, March 2.
The Governor commended the Legislature for the measure, and for recognition that a largely unmanaged and rapidly growing wolf population threatens Wyoming’s wildlife herds.
The bill allows for possible changes to Wyoming’s wolf-management plan, depending on the progress of negotiations with the U-S Fish and Wildlife Service.
Freudenthal says he will continue to pursue the state’s lawsuit against the federal government. However, he remains open to a possible agreement.
Governor Freudenthal sent a letter to House Speaker Roy Cohee and Senate President John Schiffer. The letter outlines the Governor's intentions with regard to wolf management. Freudenthal Wolf Letter (76K PDF)
