Snow Advisories & Blizzard Warnings in WYO
Winter returns to Wyoming this week
March 28, 2007
A major early spring storm is expected to impact much of central Wyoming today through Thursday. Blizzard warnings are in effect for portions of eastern Wyoming. Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for the mountains of central and northern Wyoming and Sweetwater County through 6:00 PM Thursday.
A major early spring storm is taking shape across the Cowboy State today. This storm is currently strengthening over Utah and will move very slowly across central Wyoming over the next 36 to 48 hours. Cold air is pouring south out of Montana and this will combine with very moist air moving westward from the high plains. This combination will produce a major snowstorm across central Wyoming through Thursday.
”This storm has the potential to be one of the bigger storms in several years across central Wyoming, says the National Weather Service out of Riverton. Especially if the storm slows during the day Thursday, as expected. The mountains could see 1-2 feet of new snow, with up to three feet in the Bighorn mountains.
“Those with outdoor concerns should be prepared for this severe winter weather. Traveling will be treacherous if not impossible in some areas during this storm. Take precautions now and stay informed on this dangerous winter storm. Strong winds across much of the area will create considerable blowing and drifting snow.” Travelers can expect snow-packed and slushy roads and limited visibility at times. Blizzard conditions are expected across Johnson County in eastern Wyoming.
Black ice advisories and fog warnings are also in effect for areas around the state in the early morning hours.
